From 1865, Vilmos Zsolnay (the younger brother) operated the factory alone, then in 1872 he took over the professional direction as well.

1878 – The factory won the “Grand Prix” (the gold medal) in Paris, on the World-Exhibition, the Five churches mark was used first time. Vilmos Zsolnay got the Legion of Honour.

1928 – The Factory Museum was opened.

1891 – “Rouge flambé” glaze (red eosin) was worked out experimentally by Vilmos Zsolnay, Lajos Petrik and Vince Wartha. This is a reduction glaze that has a glassy iridescence and depth (much like Tiffany glass) which became and still remains the most popular trademark of the Zsolnay factory.

It is recorded that experiments had been going on by Vilmos Zsolnay since the 1870s but only in 1893 was there any real commercial production success with the first colour, red to be produced.
